Two Cell Phone Tower Dangers: View from My Son's Bedroom

I live very very close to two mobile antennae. The first one is circa 25 meters away from my son's bedroom, and the second one is approx 60 meters away.

The first one belongs to GO Mobile and the second belongs to Vodofone.

I am an active member of our Hamlet residential area called "Kortin Residense Association" and we are greatly concerned about the EMR emitted from these antennae. What are the risks involved having such transmitters with a very close range?

It is difficult to take action as they tell us that there is NO proof that there is danger, but on the other hand they should not be within residential areas.

If you have any positive proof to forward to show and give to the government and competent authorities, I will be able to forward it without delay.

Kortin Residents Complain About Electromagnetic Radiation

The adverse effects of electromagnetic radiation, which lead to a rise in health problems for those living in the vicinity, were known as early as 1932 but still some 2,200 mobile base stations dot the Maltese Islands.

This was said yesterday during a press conference by the Kortin Residents Association, together with Professor Barry Trower, an expert in the field. Yesterday evening they also raised this issue during a Social Affairs Committee meeting.

People suffered fatigue, headaches, migraines, dizziness, anxiety, susceptibility to diseases and cancer among others. The first known effects of this radiation were recorded during the Cold War, Professor Trower said.

The research was truly complete in 1971, he said, when the US Naval Medical Research Institution carried out some 2,300 research studies on the matter. Soon just about everything that could be learned about the topic was known.

Residents' Association Launches Campaign Against Telephony Base Stations

A residents' association has launched a national campaign to raise awareness about the possible harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation from base stations used for mobile telephony.

The Kortin Residents' Association this morning held a meeting with a British expert in the subject, Barrie Trower to discuss the issue.

It will also raise the issue at a meeting with the Social Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives.

The association is complaining that there are 2,200 antennae in Malta, giving the island the highest concentration of electromagnetic smog in Europe with one antenna for every 194 inhabitants.

The association is complaining that not enough is being done by the Department of Health, the Malta Communications Authority and Mepa to monitor the antennae.

It is insisting that they should be moved away from built-up areas, and where that is not possible, their power output should be reduced.

The association said some of its members had complained of health problems which could have been caused by the base stations.

Health authorities in Malta and abroad have insisted there is no health risk from base stations.
