I should begin my weight loss testimony by saying that, because I'm a grandpa, I just figured that my spare tire was par for the course. For the last 40 years I have weighed between 73 and 75 kilos (160 to 165 pounds).

My grandchildren would poke fun at my stomach, and my son called my attention to it in an effort to encourage me to take better care of myself.
Last year, while my wife was traveling for six months, I lost 2 kilos (4.4 pounds). Without my better half, I don't sit down to eat like I should. But even after losing those kilos, I still had that spare tire around my middle.
This weight loss testimony began when my wife returned with our first jar of virgin coconut oil, which I used sparingly because we weren't sure how we were going to get more. I didn't observe any change in my weight during those months. It’s interesting to note that when I was taking small amounts of virgin coconut oil, although I didn’t lose any weight, I didn’t gain the two kilos back either!
When we got our second jar, I started eating a tablespoon per day and lost one kilo (2.2 pounds). When we found a local source of virgin coconut oil a few months later, I started consuming at least 2 tablespoons per day and sometimes more. I love the flavor! And… I lost another kilo (2.2 pounds) in less than three weeks.
I continued losing weight until now, for the first time in 40 years, I weigh what I did in high school: 67 kilos (147 pounds) and…
I haven't been doing any extra exercises or anything special to "work on my abs" either.
At first I have to admit that I was a little worried about losing so much weight so quickly, but I felt fine, had lots of energy, and am still eating very well and sleeping well besides! In fact, the coconut oil seems to have increased my appetite, so even while I was losing weight I was eating more than usual. And even though I’m still eating more than usual, my weight is now staying steady; I’m not gaining.
We feel it's better to purchase local products whenever possible. Why?
First of all, our foods today are grown and processed in fewer and fewer locations, which is good for the food industry giants, but not necessarily for the environment, consumers, or local farmers and producers.
Another reason to buy locally is to save on fuel consumption. Buying locally reduces the amount of fossil fuel required to get the product to your table.
Buying locally also supports the local industry and community where you live.
Since eating virgin coconut oil I have more energy. I don't need to nap after lunch. I do take a nap sometimes, but I don't have that feeling that if I don’t, I won't make it through the day. I also have a much better appetite and I'm actually eating more.
As you can see, this isn't only a weight loss testimony. Added energy is a wonderful bonus as is a healthy appetite.
We use virgin coconut oil as a hair conditioner and as face and body cream. When we calculate our cost of using virgin coconut oil in the kitchen, we have to take into account the fact that we aren’t spending money on purchasing hair conditioners, expensive face creams, skin creams, and hand lotion.
We’re really happy with the fact that we know every ingredient in our face cream. And it's all good, healthy, pure virgin coconut oil! Even so-called "natural" face creams have so many ingredients, most of which I can’t pronounce and don’t even know what they are. Now we don't have that problem any more.
Now for the other part of our weight loss testimony. My wife, who is a bit overweight, is also using virgin coconut oil daily, just as I am, yet she has not lost any significant amount of weight. She did lose one kilo (2.2 pounds) when she started to take the oil regularly.
To be honest, we were a bit disappointed that she didn't immediately lose a lot of weight. But something very amazing happened to her body shape. She has experienced a redistribution of her body weight, which we noticed by how her clothes fit.
We first noticed a change when she was able to wear a pair of pants that she hadn't used before because they were too tight.
I personally don't interpret the fact that she didn't lose as much weight as I did to mean that virgin coconut oil doesn't work.
I think it probably means that my wife must have other health issues to resolve and that the changes in her weight will either come more slowly, or when these other health issues are resolved or normalized. I also don’t take this fact that she didn’t lose much weight to mean that she should stop taking virgin coconut oil.
It's obvious that just as each person has a distinct and unique personality, so we each possess a distinct and unique body. There is no one shoe that fits all sizes. We have to learn how to work with our bodies, listening carefully to them in order to have a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life.
